Useful Fitness & Diet Apps

A mobile phone with dumbbells on the screen.

Hello everyone. Today’s article is a guest post from Ashley Lynn who writes for 02.

People use smart phones for just about everything these days, from running businesses, to staying in contact with friends, to playing games. But beyond these broad uses, mobile smart phones now have a range of capabilities that can almost make them seem like magic. Indeed, just about any mobile phone you pick up from a popular provider like O2 seems entirely capable of running just about every aspect of your life for you, which is why these devices have become so wildly popular. For example, did you know that there are now thousands and thousands of people who attribute their weight loss or physical improvement to fitness apps? Actually, fitness has become a very popular focus among app makers, with the result that there are now plenty of fitness-related apps available to smart phone users. Here are some of the highest recommended ones:

• CardoTrainer – When most people think of exercise-related apps, they essentially think about enhanced pedometers. You want something that will measure and keep track of your cardio workout. This is exactly what CardioTrainer does – it maps your run, counts your steps, records your distance, and alerts you to how many calories you’ve burned, how long you’ve run, and what your mile pace is. This is very useful for frequent joggers, or people looking to push themselves a bit harder in exercise.

• iFitness – If you prefer to focus on weight lifting and stationary exercise, as opposed to cardio workouts, iFitness is the best app around. The app includes a massive catalogue of different weight lifting and stationary exercises, and even includes demonstration of proper form. You can use these tools to design your own workout plans, or you can pick from workout routines designed by fitness experts and stored in the app. And, of course, any progress you make in your day to day workouts is automatically recorded.

• MyFitnessPal – This fantastic diet and exercise app allows you to track your weight loss progress through a calorie count. With an absolutely massive food database, just about anything you could possible eat will be available for a calorie count, and will be added to your daily consumption. You can also record your exercises, subtracting from your daily calorie consumption to get a very accurate measurement of your body’s daily fitness and activity. With these features, you can set a weight loss goal and easily track your progress over the course of the weeks and months.
