Getting better abs isn’t as hard as many people think. It does involve hard work and dedication but by following a few simple steps, you can see amazing results in just a few weeks. Good abs aren’t just to flaunt, they are an essential asset when it comes to any sport or type of fitness. A strong core will help you with other exercises and can thus help boost muscle growth or weight loss when training in the gym.
Developing those dream abs requires work and a whole lot of planning. It’s all about commitment and dedication, built around a healthy diet and effective exercise regime. This dedication to getting better abs is a great personality trait to develop and if you can show this type of commitment to getting better abs, imagine what you could achieve in other aspects of your life, such as occupation.
So let’s take a look at some of the steps you need to take.
1. The Diet
You need to be realistic about your diet. If you consume too much fat and sugars, your dream abs will never see the light of day. No, this doesn’t mean you have to live off of tiny portions of vegetables, it just means you need to start recording and understanding what food you are consuming.
Working in an office can mean you snack on unhealthy foods without too much thought. Planning out five meals a day, which include a good balance of protein and carbs will help you improve your diet so easily.
You should start to enjoy your food. Perhaps taking up cooking lessons and really taking pride in what you eat. Planning your meals is highly recommended so take a look at the advice out there. A personal trainer can give you great bespoke help or there are plenty of apps and websites that offer tailored advice to help you reach your goals.
2. Exercise & Workouts
This can either be the most fun part of the most terrifying part depending how you feel about the gym. If you enjoy your workouts, then you are much more likely to stick with them.
Joining classes and working out as part of a bigger group is a great way to push yourself. You also have a professional helping you along the way.
Mixing your workouts up is also important. Don’t stick with one exercise. Instead, make an effort to push yourself and start doing exercises you find hard.
3. Alcohol
This is probably no surprise but drinking large amounts of alcohol isn’t going to help you develop better abs. Alcohol, especially beer, is very high in calories which will just add fat around your waist, potentially reversing all that hard work in the gym.
You don’t need to cut it out completely. Just be aware that a perfect diet and exercise program can be heavily affected by excessive alcohol.
4. General Fitness
By combining specific ab training exercises with other forms of exercise and sports, such as cycling, running or yoga, you can see some great benefits.
As we mentioned at the start of this article, abs are involved in basically every sport and movement, so by simply going for a jog or cycling to work, you will see benefits.
Developing better abs should really be seen as part of the bigger picture of getting fitter and healthier.
5. Rest
Yes, that’s right, stop training so hard! Rest is one of the most important aspects of fitness and exercise. Not enough rest will lead to injury and other problems.
You don’t need to train seven days a week. In fact, you’d struggle to find professional athletes who train intensely seven days a week.
Rest is essential for better abs and all round fitness, so enjoy your days off.
