Hello Everyone. Today’s article is a guest post from Hertsmere Leisure.

Summer is here and you want to get fit. So, let’s think: you could go for run, a swim in the sea or kick a football around in the park. It’s nearly time for Wimbledon – how about tennis? Well, if only the sun was shining.
Here’s the reality: we live in Britain, not Miami. So how do we make that miracle – whether it’s that beach body you’ve always craved or just better physical shape – happen?
Exercise is life changing. It fires up the feel-good chemicals and, as any psychologist will tell you, that’s where motivation comes from. Regular exercise improves our mood and self-esteem, and it’s also a great way to manage the stress of those long, demanding days in the office. People are leading more sedentary lifestyles, and research suggests that the average adult spends more than seven hours a day sitting down – at work, in the car or on the sofa. It’s summer and the time for change has arrived!
Scientific evidence suggests that physical exercise leads to happier and healthier lives. However, most people find it increasingly difficult to make enough time for exercise. So how can using your local gym help? First and foremost, it helps you to maintain a proper fitness routine. Forget about the unpredictable “Great British weather”, whether it’s rain or blistering heat, the accommodating atmosphere of a gym enables people to exercise in greater comfort. Don’t worry about those pesky summer insects, hay fever or sunburn – you can work out with added the luxury of air-conditioning. And, remember, the pool is usually just next-door!
Exercising in the gym allows for more flexibility during the busy summer months. For instance, you might have work commitments. No matter: you can fit some gym time into your day, take a shower, grab a bite to eat (keep it healthy!) and head back to the office. Just think about “destination fitness” – a gym can be a great social hub, particularly if you set a regular time and date with friends.
We should all be taking a more holistic view of the way we exercise. Gyms encourage and actively support “full-body” workouts, whether it’s cardio, strength and conditioning, balance or core fitness. Gyms help to manage exercise routines because there’s the expertise and facilities at hand to ensure you make the best of your time.
Gyms also provide a far safer environment to exercise in. Specialists advise against activities such as road-running. Not great for those fragile joints! And consider the dangers of jogging on your own, twisting your ankle and not having access to a mobile phone…that’s not going to happen in a gym!
What if you’re more ambitious? Well, why not let a personal trainer professionally tailor an exercise regime which is right for you?
Truly, there is no need to feel disillusioned any longer.
It might well be summer, but how often is that romantic notion of running on a beach a reality? Gyms accommodate a wide range of facilities which means there’s something for everyone, regardless of age, fitness or appearance. You only need to take a look around your local gym to see that it’s not just the habitat of “body-beautifuls”. Don’t stop enjoying the great outdoors but, if you want the best results from your fitness regime, it’s time to start looking in-house.
