You’ve probably spent most of January at the gym. But as the month draws to a close, chances are the sight of treadmills and barbells is driving you cockahoop.
Trying to stay motivated in your fitness regime can be a struggle, especially when there’s a tantalising cake shop that’s just opened up at the end of your street.
But don’t be tempted by a sticky bun just yet – there are many ways to keep yourself fighting fit for the whole year, and they won’t give you cabin fever in the gym.
So come with us, grab our muscular hands as we show you a few fitness goals that will keep you on track for 2018.
Look at fashion sites
We’re not ones to promote mass, zombie consumerism, but there’s no denying that aiming to fit into a new, petite dress from the high street or a fashion website is as good an aim as any.
Select an affordable dress from a site like AX Paris and imagine yourself fitting into it. This will give you a realistic weight-loss goal with an extra special reward at the end of your journey.
Some people need to be aiming for a slim-line wedding dress before they’ll shed some pounds – but if you can do the same with a high street dress you’ll go one better.
Keep notes
If you’re a frequent gym-goer, you’ll most likely spot other gym junkies carrying notebooks around with them as they lift weights. Within these notebooks are the secrets to motivation, the reason that the guy on treadmill number four has arms that look like they could crack walnuts.
These note-takers are making progress charts, keeping track of the number of reps they’ve done or miles they’ve run. If they attend the gym frequently enough, the number of weights they can lift will grow incrementally with every visit.
This simple trick will help you strive to go from couch potato to fitness fanatic.
Give yourself the carrot
A little treat never hurt anyone, especially if you’ve been to the gym five times in a week.
Buy yourself a Domino’s or a new DVD box set as a reward for yourself if you manage to hit your fitness goals for the week. This’ll keep you motivated and help you feel as though there’s an endpoint in sight.
Buddy up
You can’t avoid the gym if you’ve got a buddy forcing you to go. Having someone there to keep you motivated and distract you while you work out can be the perfect antidote to laziness. And you’ll feel guilty if you stand them up.
Just make sure they’re not lazy, too, otherwise you’ll both end up in Starbucks instead of on the treadmills.
That’s our list. Do you have any motivational tips for the gym? Then let us know in the comments below.
