Come winter and many of us have enough excuses not to wake up early to workout. It is cold, dark and dreary and sticking with a resolution seems like a herculean task. You just do not have the same motivation that you had when it was summer. But, here’s a way to save yourself from these excuses. Sleep in your workout clothes! Yes you read it right, sleeping in your workout clothes will give you enough motivation to wake up and get going.
Many of us are not morning persons, but we still need to go that extra mile to keep those inches at bay.
And with winter we have enough excuses to not get out of the warm bed. But sleeping in workout clothes has its own set of advantages. It accomplishes these tasks:
- You get to sleep a few minutes longer, which makes all the difference as you get that extra winks of rest.
- Those few moments of extra time allows you to step out into early rays of sunlight.
- You are warmer and you don’t have the need to strip and change into clothes that are cold. This way it is easier to just head out of the door and and into the workout regime.
- Staying dressed gives that extra push mentally as you now do not have excuses to not change.
Other than these benefits, wearing workout clothes to sleep also translates to, ‘I’m preparing’, ‘I’m committed’, to doing it. It is an emphatic statement that affirms accountability in your resolution to staying fit. It is an indirect way of tricking ones mind and preventing it from saying, “It is cold. Maybe I’ll wake up early tomorrow, if I feel like it”. You are already prepared and have decided to go with it.
There are many who find sleeping in workout clothes uncomfortable. If you like the idea of sleeping in workout clothes but find it impossible to sleep in that tight sports bra, do what you can to keep yourself ready. You can maybe just wear your workout pants and socks and leave your inner wear for morning; this way you will head out of the door without too many excuses and on time. This mental trick works even for those who go to the gym and for those who work in their living room.
To save some more time, layout your running shoes (unlacing them) ready to just slip them on, your outer layer of clothes, your sports/gym bag(with all the necessities in them), your choice of working out music (iPod/headphones) etc. This gives you enough time to extend your sleep time, wake up refreshed and without much of a scramble walk out of the door with a cheerful smile.
