5 Ways To Keep Cool While You Sleep This Summer

A woman sleeping.

Hello Everyone. Today’s article is brought to you by Olivia Prat.

July is upon us and we’re in the midst of a heatwave that’s hotter than the World Cup events. While the hot weather is great news for those who want to dust off the barbecues, don their shades and try on last year’s bikinis, it can be a nightmare or those who want a good night’s sleep.

Thankfully, there are more than a few tricks on how to keep cool and ensure a good night’s rest while temperatures are up. Here are some of the best ways you can down the temperature down this summer.

Ditch Those Pyjamas

One of the most obvious – and most fun – ways of keeping cool this summer is to forgo your usual bedwear in favour of the more au naturel look. Clingy, non breathable fabrics will just cause you to sweat and could leave you with common skin problems such as break outs, so ditch the pyjamas and you’ll feel – and look – much better!

Shower Power

Another way of cooling off and helping you feel refreshed for bed is to have a lukewarm shower before you hit the sack. You might be tempted to have a cold shower with the heat the way it is, but this will just encourage your body’s internal heating system to warm you up even more, so sticking to a comfortable temperature is best.

Make Comfort Your Priority

We all know that the best way to guarantee a good night’s sleep is to invest in a comfortable bed, but you can also make sure those bed covers aren’t keeping you too warm in these hot temperatures. If you want to keep cool, keep an eye on your duvet’s ‘tog’ rating – many winter duvets have a rating of around 13.5, whereas a summer duvet will be around 9-10.

Keep An Eye On Your Water

This is about more than just keeping a cool drink by your bed – you may also want to look at your central heating too. If you don’t have a combi boiler, make sure you reduce the amount of time your water heating system is switched on. An upstairs tank will radiate heat throughout you bedroom, so make sure your shower is turned down to keep this to a minimum.

If none of the above work, you can always keep a bowl of cool water next to your bed to dip your wrists into, which you will soon see will keep your whole body cool. Make the most of the summer while it’s here though – a restless night is more than worth it!
