Phytofluene Explained

Phytofluene Explained

WHAT IS PHYTOFLUENE?

Phytofluene is a carotene and phytonutrient (health boosting, plant based chemical compounds that are not classed as essential nutrients). It is a powerful antioxidant that may also have further health benefits in humans. In this article I take a deeper look at phytofluene and discuss its potential health boosting properties.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF PHYTOFLUENE?

It is not known who discovered phytofluene or when it was discovered.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF PHYTOFLUENE?

Phytofluene is a powerful antioxidant that can keep your body’s cells safe from dangerous free radicals (harmful by-products that get released into your body’s cells during oxygen related reactions). Provisional studies suggest that it may also have additional health benefits. However, more studies are needed before these potential health benefits are confirmed. The list below outlines these possible health benefits of phytofluene:
– Possibly acting as an anti-inflammatory (a substance which prevents unnecessary inflammation within the body).
– Possibly protecting the skin cells from ultraviolet (UV) damage (invisible rays of energy from the sun that can damage your skin cells and cause skin cancer).

HOW MUCH PHYTOFLUENE DO YOU NEED?

Phytofluene is not classed as an essential nutrient so no official recommended daily allowance (RDA) has been established.

WHICH FOODS CONTAIN PHYTOFLUENE?

Phytofluene can be sourced from oranges, star fruits, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. However, the exact amounts these foods contain are not known.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CONSUMING TOO MUCH PHYTOFLUENE?

Currently there are no reported overdose symptoms associated with the consumption of phytofluene.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF FAILING TO CONSUME ENOUGH PHYTOFLUENE?

Phytofluene is not classed as essential nutrients so no deficiency symptoms have been established.

PHYTOFLUENE SUMMARY

There is very little information available on phytofluene and more research is needed before its health benefits can be confirmed. However, the phtyofluene rich foods listed in this article are packed with other health boosting nutrients and are definitely a worthwhile addition to your diet.
