You started out the year with good intentions and a New Year’s resolution to slim down and tone your body in time for summer. Unfortunately, the winter grind, lack of sleep and sunlight and all the Valentine’s Day chocolates slowed down your workout plans and derailed your diet. Don’t fear another four months of swimsuits, bikinis, shorts and tank tops, feeling less fit or not at your best.
Instead, take charge and get your summer body back, just in time to hit the beach with confidence.
When to Exercise
Ask almost anyone and they’ll tell you it’s crucial to participate in at least 30 minutes of rigorous activity daily to maintain a healthy weight. Scientists are also discovering it’s not only about how you exercise, it’s also about when. The general consensus is that getting your workout in first thing in the morning is not only more beneficial, but people who get in an early morning jog are more likely to stick with the program. If you cannot fathom hitting the gym or taking your daily walk until the afternoon or evening, don’t sweat it. Just stick to regular routine to maximize your results and get your body back in shape for summer.
Trim 100 Calories a Day
Eliminating 100 calories from your diet per day might not seem like a lot, but skipping that extra cookie or switching to yogurt for dessert can actually cause you to lose around 10 pounds per year. There are also several clever ways to cut out these calories that won’t alter your everyday lifestyle. For instance, use low-salt chicken broth instead of butter to sauté vegetables or drink water instead of your regular calorie-laden beverage for lunch.
Avoid Diet Disasters
Without knowing it, you could be sabotaging your attempts at living a healthy lifestyle or reaching your ideal weight. Here are a few common diet disasters and how to avoid them:
• Using the word “diet.” There are so many negative connotations associated with this word that simply uttering it can cause someone to reach for a bag of potato chips. Instead, consider your “diet” a lifestyle change (which will help you to keep it going longer) and eliminate that evil word from your vocabulary.
• Convenience eating. Many of us have precious few minutes to eat, let alone the ability to sit down and have a proper meal. When it’s time to eat, slow down and set down the fork or spoon between bites.
• Not cheating once in a while. If you deny your favourite indulgences, whether its cookies, chocolate or hamburgers, you’re only setting yourself up for a temptation-filled binge. Allow yourself to enjoy these naughty foods in moderation to prevent flipping out and eating an entire package of Oreos.
Switch Up Your Workouts
One of the main reasons many people stop exercising is the monotony and boredom associated with performing the same activities and workouts day after day, week after week. Keep things interesting by switching up your workout every week. For instance, take a daily spin class on your lunch break one week and swim at the local YMCA pool the next. Yoga is a great way to increase flexibility one week, which is then followed by some intense cardio workouts to tone your body and lose weight. If possible exercise with a friend as well. You’ll keep each other motivated while having a few laughs, both of which make working out seem less like a chore.
While working out, it’s crucial to remain hydrated, but don’t feel discouraged if you can’t consume the recommended 64 ounces of water per day. Your body will let you know when you’re thirsty and as long as you’re not showing signs of dehydration, including thirst, headaches, a sticky mouth or dry skin, keep drinking your water as usual. Some of the safest and the best diet pills are now being exposed to assist in getting your body back in shape. Don’t be afraid to ask are there diet pills with ephedra. Ephedra is also a great supplement to assist in shaping up when used in the correct dosage!
