How Cholesterol Can Affect Your Love Life

How Cholesterol Can Affect Your Love Life

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance that is carried by proteins in the blood. It is mainly produced in the liver. Your body makes the amount it needs and uses it for many different reasons, such as the production of cell membranes and vitamin D. Some of the foods you eat may also contain cholesterol, so it is important to make sure you’re not eating produce that contains too much as this can put you at risk of various health conditions, such as heart attacks and strokes. However, did you know that cholesterol can affect your love life too? Read on to find out how your cholesterol might be harming you in more ways than you think.

It Can Lead To Erectile Dysfunction

For men, erectile dysfunction can be an embarrassing problem. As Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor point out, there are various medical conditions that may result in erectile dysfunction, such as high blood pressure and diabetes. However, high cholesterol can be to blame too. High cholesterol causes fatty deposits to clog up the blood vessels in the pelvic area, meaning not enough blood reaches the penis for it to gain an erection. If you, or your partner, experience this problem in the bedroom, you may want to consult a medical professional for help. There are various treatments and medications that have been developed to overcome this particular issue.

It Can Lower Your Sex Drive

Some drugs that are prescribed to help control cholesterol can have an effect on your sex drive. For example, certain statins, which prevent cholesterol production, can be to blame for your lack of sexual desire. While this group of medicines can improve your health overall, it can do quite the opposite when you’re between the sheets. If you’re a woman with cholesterol problems, whether you’re taking medication or not, you may find it more difficult to feel aroused and become lubricated. This can make sexual intercourse painful and unpleasant. If you are worried that the medication you’re taking may be interfering with your love life, you may be able to switch to a different type of drug. Speak to your doctor to discuss what steps you can take.

If you want to regain sexual satisfaction with your loved one, it might be an idea to take a closer look at your health to see if your cholesterol is the culprit of your problems in the bedroom.
