After the success of the 2012 Olympics, sport in Britain has really taken off. With a new emphasis on being fit and healthy, leisure centres and sports centres have popped up around the country creating hundreds of new jobs. With so many different career options working in the health and fitness sector is ideal for a number of people, so what different kinds of jobs are available?

Fitness Instructor

If you’re passionate about everything fitness and love working out then becoming a fitness instructor is the perfect career for you. You get to spend your days teaching classes, which can be anything from spinning to circuits, and then in your spare time create training plans for those wanting to get fit. As a personal trainer you need to love working with people as well as being friendly, motivational and patient. To become a personal trainer you will need to undertake a level 2 certificate in Fitness Instruction.

Physiotherapist

Physiotherapy can be really rewarding, working with people to improve their movement and quality of life. Physiotherapists are needed in all different industries from football to warehousing and in hospitals. You get the opportunity to meet an amazing range of different people and work with lots of different injuries, helping people get back to health. To become a physiotherapist you must have a degree in physiotherapy and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Nursing

Nursing is a huge part of the healthcare industry and makes a really fulfilling career. If you’re friendly, compassionate, and caring, nursing could definitely be for you. There are so many different areas of nursing you can go in to that it is such a broad spectrum from working in the community to being based on an intensive care ward. Most nurses need a degree to be qualified now, but once qualified there are plenty of jobs available – see Nursing Personnel for more details.

Nutritionist

Helping people to follow a more nutritious diet and in turn be healthier and feel better is another great career. To become a nutritionist you need to be pretty good at science and have a degree in nutrition or public health nutrition. As new information emerges about which foods are good and bad for us, nutritionists have to keep developing their knowledge to stay up to date.

There are loads of amazing and rewarding careers in the health and fitness sector, it’s all about finding the right one for you.
