As I’ve been discussing in previous articles, Halloween is a time when you very often end up consuming a lot of excess calories. While one way to limit these excess calories is to eat healthier, lower calorie Halloween sweet treats, you can also burn them off by getting creative and playing some Halloween fitness games. In this article I’m going to be listing 8 Calorie Burning Halloween Fitness Games you can try this year. Each one is loads of fun and will allow you to burn hundreds of calories on the night.
1) Catch The Ghost
Calories Burned Per Hour = 250
This simple but effective exercise is great for outdoor Halloween parties where you’ve got lots of space to run around. All you need to play is at least five people and a white sheet with eye holes. Once you have these things, nominate one person to start as the ghost, give them the white sheet to wear and let them have a 10 second head start. After 10 seconds, all the other people chase the ghost. Once the ghost is caught, they have to drop and perform 10 burpees then pass the white sheet onto the player who caught them. You then simply carry on playing in this way as long as you like.
2) Five Mile Trick Or Treat
Total Calories Burned = 400
The Five Mile Trick Or Treat is just like regular trick or treating. The only difference is that you plan your route in advance and make sure that the round trip is five miles in length. By doing this you’ll burn around 400 calories as you trick or treat.
3) Halloween Dance Off
Calories Burned Per Hour = 380
To play Halloween Dance Off you will need a copy of Just Dance 4 (or any other dance game) and 2-4 players. Simply choose your favourite dance off mode within the game and then play in your Halloween costume. Not only does this game burn a decent number of calories but it’s also great fun seeing everyone busting a move in full Halloween fancy dress.
4) Halloween Relay Race
Calories Burned Per Hour = 850
To organise a Halloween Relay Race, you will need four or more people and at least 100 metres of free space. Once you’ve found the space and the people, place two pumpkins on the ground and make sure they are 100 metres apart. Then split the people into teams of two (if you have an odd number of people playing, one team can have three people). Once you have your teams together, get one person from each team to line up besides the first pumpkin and race towards the second pumpkin and back. Once the first member of the team arrives back at the first pumpkin, get them to tap the second member of the team and then have the second member run between the pumpkins. If one team has three members, run a third relay (the teams with two people can decide in advance who will be running two relays). The first team to complete all the relays is the winner.
5) Halloween Tag
Calories Burned Per Hour = 250
Halloween Tag is very similar to regular tag but since everyone is in full fancy dress, it has a seasonal twist. To play, simply find some large open space and choose someone to be ‘it’. Then everyone else has to avoid the person who is ‘it’ while they try to tag someone. Once the person who is ‘it’ manages to tag someone, the person who got tagged has to perform 10 star jumps and then they become ‘it’. You then simply carry on playing in this way for as long as you like.
6) Halloween Treasure Hunt
Calories Burned Per Hour = 150
Halloween Treasure Hunt requires a little preparation but the end result is loads of fun and keeps everyone moving. To prepare the game, hide some treasure (this can be anything from Halloween themed items to Halloween themed sweet treats) around the house, outside or both. Then prepare a sheet for each guest which contains clues as to where each piece of treasure is hidden. As your guests arrive, give them a clues sheet and let them hunt the treasure until it’s all found.
7) Pumpkin Bowling
Calories Burned Per Hour = 150
Pumpkin Bowling is a simple but enjoyable game. All you need to play is a ten pin bowling set and a pumpkin with the stem cut off. Set up the ten pin bowling set as normal, stand about 10 feet away, take turns bowling with the pumpkin and play for as long as you like.
8) Pumpkin In The Middle
Calories Burned Per Hour = 200
Pumpkin In The Middle allows you to put a seasonal spin on the classic ‘Piggy In The Middle’ game. The rules are exactly the same except instead of a ball, you use a pumpkin. Once you have your pumpkin, get your players together and select one player to be in the middle. Then get all the other players to surround this player while leaving enough space to throw the pumpkin between themselves. Once everyone’s in position, get the players on the outside to start throwing the pumpkin to each other while avoiding the player in the middle. If the player in the middle manages to touch or catch the pumpkin, the player who threw it swaps places with them and goes in the middle. Additionally, if a player on the outside fails to catch the pumpkin, they have to go in the middle (unless it’s an extremely inaccurate throw, in which case the thrower goes in the middle). Once the game’s flowing, carry on playing for as long as you like.
