If you’re a regular reader of Free Fitness Tips then you’ll know that recently I’ve been focussing on how to eat healthy at barbecues and providing you with a wide selection of healthy barbecue recipes. However, so far I’ve been focussing on savoury dishes only. Today I’m going to be addressing the balance and providing you with 5 Healthy & Natural BBQ Dessert Recipes.
Desserts probably aren’t the first thing that pop into your head when you think of healthy eating and many of the desserts on offer at barbecues are high in calories, high in sugar and low in nutrition. However, these five healthy, natural desserts utilise the natural sweetness of fruit to create a tasty treat that’s low in calories and loaded with nutrients.
To prepare each of these healthy and natural dessert recipes you will need the following equipment…
– 1 Blender
– 1 Cool Box
– 1 Freezer Safe Plastic Container
– 1 Mixing Bowl
– 1 Saucepan
– 1 Sealable Container
– 1 Serving Bowl
– 1 Serving Spoon
– 1 Whisk
– 1 Wooden Spoon
1) Healthy & Natural Banana Pudding Recipe
Bananas are a brilliant source of fibre, manganese, potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C. With this healthy and natural bannna pudding recipe, you can fill up on all these health boosting nutrients and also treat yourself to a tasty dessert that contains just 165 calories per serving.
Ingredients:
– 350ml Of Milk
– 25g Of Sugar
– 2 Teaspoons Of Butter (12g)
– 1 Medium Egg (45g)
– 1 Small Chopped Banana (101g)
– 1 Tablespoon Of Corn Starch (18g)
– 1 Teaspoon Of Vanilla Extract (6g)
Instructions:
1. Add the corn starch, milk and sugar to the saucepan and place it on the hob on a medium heat.
2. Heat the mixture while constantly stirring with the wooden spoon until it starts to boil.
3. Once the mixture starts to boil, simmer for 1 minute and continue to stir constantly with the wooden spoon.
4. After 1 minute, remove the saucepan from the hob and turn off the heat.
5. Add the eggs to the large mixing bowl and whisk.
6. Once the eggs are whisked, gradually add the mixture from the saucepan into the large mixing bowl while continuing to whisk.
7. Once you have poured all the mixture from the saucepan into the large mixing bowl and whisked it thoroughly, pour it back into the saucepan.
8. Place the saucepan back on the hob on a medium heat and heat the mixture while constantly stirring with the wooden spoon until it starts to boil again.
9. Once the mixture starts to boil again, simmer for a further minute and continue to stir constantly with the wooden spoon.
10. After 1 minute, remove the saucepan from the hob and turn off the heat.
11. Add the butter and vanilla extract to the pan and continue to stir until it has all dissolved.
12. Let the pudding cool in the pan for 2 hours.
13. Once the pudding has cooled, add the slices of banana to the pan and stir them in thoroughly with the wooden spoon.
14. Transfer the banana pudding to the sealable container, seal it and then put it in the fridge until it’s time for the barbecue.
15. When it’s time for the barbecue, remove the sealable container from the fridge.
16. If you’re hosting the barbecue, pour the healthy and natural banana pudding into the serving bowl, add a serving spoon and place it outside with the rest of the food. – 300g Of Blueberries
– 250ml Of Clotted Cream
– 1 Teaspoon Of Lemon Juice (6ml)
– 1 Teaspoon Of Lemon Zest (6g)
– 1 Teaspoon Of Vanilla Extract (6g)
Instructions:
1. Add the sugar and three quarters of the blueberries to the saucepan, place the pan on the hob on a medium heat and heat the mixture until it starts to boil.
2. Once the mixture starts to boil, turn the heat down to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally with the wooden spoon.
3. After 5 minutes, remove the saucepan from the hob and turn off the heat.
4. Add the lemon zest and the remaining blueberries to the saucepan and mix them in thoroughly with the wooden spoon.
5. Leave the mixture to cool in the pan for 2 hours.
6. Add the clotted cream and vanilla extract to the large mixing bowl and then whisk for 1 minute.
7. After 1 minute, gradually pour the blueberry mixture from the saucepan into the mixing bowl while continuing to whisk.
8. Transfer the blueberry fool mixture from the mixing bowl to the sealable container, seal it and put it in the fridge until it’s time for the barbecue.
9. When it’s time for the barbecue, remove the sealable container from the fridge.
10. If you’re hosting the barbecue, pour the healthy and natural blueberry fool into the serving bowl, add a serving spoon and place it outside with the rest of the food.
