4 Low Calorie Ciders To Try This New Year's Eve

February 2016 Update: Since originally writing this post, I’ve found that my original findings on the fourth cider on the list – Stella Artois Cidre were incorrect. It actually contains 290 calories per bottle and not the 150 calories I initially stated. I have now removed Stella Artois Cidre from the list and advise you to stick with the three remaining ciders below if you want to minimise the amount of alcohol calories you consume.

With the Christmas holidays almost over and New Year’s Eve just a day away , the chances are you’re going to be indulging in a little more alcohol than usual on the big night. While one night of heavy alcohol consumption isn’t going to ruin a year’s hard work, the fact remains that the calories in alcoholic drinks are empty calories and do not provide your body with any nutritional value. Therefore, it makes sense to minimise the amount of alcohol calories you consume where possible. In this article I’m going to be helping you do exactly that by listing 4 Low Calorie Ciders To Try This New Year’s Eve.

1) Magners Light

Magners LightCalories Per 500ml Can: 139
Units Of Alcohol Per 500ml Can: 2.3
Calories Per Unit Of Alcohol: 62
ABV: 4.5%
Cost Per 500ml Can: £1.20 (4 * 500ml Cans For £4.80 At Asda.co.uk)

Magners Light is a low calorie version of the popular Magners Original cider. It maintains the classic Magners taste and the 4.5% ABV but it packs 25% fewer calories, making it the perfect substitute if Magners is your preferred cider brand.

2) Blackthorn Cider

Blackthorn CiderCalories Per 500ml Can: 170
Units Of Alcohol Per 500ml Can: 2.3
Calories Per Unit Of Alcohol: 68
ABV: 5%
Cost Per 500ml Can: £1 (24 * 500ml Cans For £23.99 At TheDrinkShop.com)

If you prefer dry cider over sweet cider, Blackthorn Cider will be right up your street. It’s made using bittersweet cider apples and this creates a distinctive, crisp, dry, less sugary flavour. At 170 calories per can, it’s also a lot lighter than the majority of dry ciders out there which makes it an excellent choice for slashing the calories in your alcohol this New Year.

3) Savanna Light Premium Cider

Savanna LightCalories Per 340ml Bottle: 136
Units Of Alcohol Per 340ml Bottle: 1
Calories Per Unit Of Alcohol: 133
ABV: 3%
Cost Per 340ml Bottle: £1 (24 * 500ml Cans For £23.99 At TheDrinkShop.com)

Savanna Light Premium Cider is a fantastic choice if you want a low alcohol cider. At 3% ABV, it contains around a third less alcohol than the other ciders on this list but still has a dry, refreshing, satisfying taste. It’s also very kind to your waistline with each bottle containing just 133 calories.

Summary

If you’re a cider fan, I hope there’s a choice on this list that matches your tastes. The four ciders listed contain between 20% and 40% fewer calories than regular ciders, so by making the switch you can cut a good amount of liquid calories out of your New Year’s Eve celebrations. So give the four ciders a try, find your favourite and make it your cider of choice as you party the night away.

Now I want to hear from you guys. What’s your favourite low calorie cider? Also, if you’ve got any additional low calorie ciders to recommend that aren’t on this list, please share them by leaving a comment below. Finally, please Like, +1, Pin and Tweet this post, so that as many people as possible can enjoy these low calorie ciders.
